Bio

Daniel Aneto Olesen 1995
Born to a Danish father and Nigerian mother, I grew up with both tradition and transformation as guiding forces. My path has taken me from national basketball courts to underground music scenes, from crossing oceans to creating new cultural platforms. These experiences shape how I work: hands-on, intuitive, and driven by curiosity.

If you want to know more about me, I’ve been blessed with not just one but two (and another one in the making - yeah I know it’s a lot...)  documentaries about my life, identity and some of the work I do. Pop some popcorn (my all time go-to favorite snack btw) and dive even deeper into my bio. Or just reach out if you want to connect and here my story straight from the source.

In the film HOME, we follow 27-year-old Daniel Aneto Olesen through his daily life in Aarhus. Daniel is a cultural producer, former basketball player, and DJ. He is also mixed-race, with a Danish farmer father and a mother from southern Nigeria.

In recent years, a growing curiosity has taken hold of Daniel. He wants to explore more about himself, his identity, and his upbringing in the provincial and anonymous village of Stouby near Vejle. His search for understanding ranges from melancholic and restless to playful and inquisitive.

We hear Daniel’s inner thoughts and emotions as he moves through Aarhus. We see him rolling cigarettes, listening to music with friends, and discussing ethnicity and belonging. We follow him back to the red-brick house that was his childhood home — where the controversial “circle coffee lady” painting hangs side by side with Nigerian artifacts and Danish design classics.

HOME is a film about being a minority ethnic Dane in 2022 — and the inner dilemmas of identity, ethnicity, and belonging that come with it.
